What is the Watch Dog Program?

WatchdogsWatch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is the father involvement initiative of the National Center for Fathering. Inspired by one father's desire to increase male involvement in his children's school and with the help of teachers and administration, Watch D.O.G.S. was created. Fathers and father-figures (uncles, grandfathers, etc.) are asked to invest just one day per school year at Peiffer.

There are many benefits to this program. First, students gain another positive male role model at school. Peiffer also gains an extra set of eyes and ears which can increase a sense of security for students and staff. Watch D.O.G.S. spend meaningful time in the school setting and gain a greater awareness of the positive impact they can have on their student(s) life.

In the fall of 2012, the Watch Dog Program was introduced at Peiffer. In the first four years, we have had an average of 78 volunteers provide at least one day of service per year and have had at least one Watch Dog on duty an average of 82% of our school days. We are looking forward to another year of having the Watch Dog program at Peiffer.
